Anoushka Shankar

Anoushka Shakar, one of the American and British sitarist. She is the youngest female and was the first person to be awarded an official British House of Commons shield. Anoushka is the emerging star of Indian sitar. She is both the student and daughter of Ravi Shankar. Born in London She spent her beginning of her career bouncing between London and New Delhi. She gave her debut performance on stage in New Delhi at the tender age of thirteen. She then moved to Encinitas CA, where she obtained the High School diploma with honors in 1999. Although she is still very young, Anouskha is a star in her performing and recording career. She frequently joins her father during performances, something she has been doing for several years. In 1998, she debuted her first single album Anourag. It was followed by Live at Carnegie Hall, a Grammy-nominated album a year later. The stage is a very important aspect of her life. She's played in many major venues all over the globe. Anoushka isn't just a musician. She also published Bapi, the Love of My Life in the year 2002. The book is a biography that pays tribute to her father Ravi Shankar. in 2003 she appeared in Dance Like a Man as a Bharat Natyam dancer. Anoushka's career is still developing and she will continue to achieve great success in the future. Anoushka Shankar was born in England and spent the majority of her early years in London and Delhi later relocating to California where she went to the high school. In Delhi on his birthday, which was celebrated at the age of 75, Anoushka made her debut performing the sitar before the crowd of at the age of four, following her nine year old father. As a part of her dad's band as they toured around the globe, Anoushka had a wealth of experience performing on stage at Carnegie Hall while still in her teens performing at Peter Gabriel's WOMAD festival and making recordings together with George Harrison. She was the only female to receive the House of Commons Shield awarded by the British Parliament for her musicianship and talent as an outstanding musician from music in Asian Arts.
